Self-Appraisal

A little boy went to a telephone booth which was inside a store and dialed a number.
The store-owner observed and listened to the conversation:

Boy : "Lady, Can you give me the job of cutting your lawn?
Woman : (at the other end of the phone line) "I already have someone to cut my lawn."
Boy : "Lady, I will cut your lawn for half the price than the person who cuts your lawn now."
Woman : I'm very satisfied with the person who is presently cutting my lawn.
Boy : (with more perseverance) "Lady, I'll even sweep the floor and the stairs of your house for free.
Woman : No, thank you.

With a smile on his face, the little boy replaced the receiver.

The store-owner, who was listening to all of this, walked over to the boy.

Store Owner : "Son... I like your attitude; I like that positive spirit and would like to offer you a job."

Boy : "No thanks”
Store Owner : But you were really pleading for one.
Boy : “No Sir, I was just checking my performance at the job I already have. I am the one who is working for that lady I was talking to!"

This is called…
Self Appraisal

Self appraisal is self evaluation, it’s about your performance, your strengths, your weaknesses, your accomplishments, problems faced, the training and development needs. It’s like looking in the mirror and really being honest, what do you see?

It’s that time of the year at work when we start working on this ... what image do you see? Is it fair to say maybe we need to do a ‘self-appraisal’ outside work? Worth thinking about.
I wonder if I phoned my boss would she say 'no thanks I already have someone doing that for me' or would she jump at the opportunity and go 'yeah, come and see me!'

I wish I had the little boys courage!

When people let you down

At some stage in your life someone around you will disappoint you - family, friends, whoever you surround yourself with. People let you down all the time and a lot of the times it is not intentional. Sometimes we take it more personally; allow ourselves to be hurt more easily and feel more disappointment and therefore think it is intentional. Maybe our expectations were unrealistic from the beginning. You know how it is when you’re feeling miserable or down for some reason disappointments snow ball and come tumbling down on you. On that day seems like everyone you have ever known has hurt or disappointed you in some way.
I think I have given some people more credit than others or I expected more from them, we expect more from the ones we admire and confide in and then it happens they just let you down. It’s such a bad feeling that I wish I could move and live on a deserted island on my own, talk to the birds and the rocks cause they really have time to listen and don’t talk back…as long as we live with others we will always feel disappointment.

Being let down especially affects and makes it difficult to go to church and worship God. It is such a common feeling finding it impossible to go to church because our minds are full of negative thoughts about another person.

It’s never going to get better or get any easier and so I was trying to come up with a self-help list for myself:
H2 avoid negativity
H2 be positive
H2 spot the pessimist & avoid them
H2 surround myself with people that make me feel emotionally stronger … and then I started thinking about that deserted island again, at times it seems like the best and only solution.

But I found this and it has ended up in some kind of list or five points for me – it’s a song a poem and a promise  – it’s Psalm 27

1 The LORD is my light and my salvation
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life
   of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked advance against me
to devour me,
it is my enemies and my foes
   who will stumble and fall.
3 Though an army besiege me,
   my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
   even then I will be confident.
4 One thing I ask from the LORD,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
   all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the LORD
   and to seek him in his temple.
5 For in the day of trouble
   he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
   and set me high upon a rock.
6 Then my head will be exalted
above the enemies who surround me;
at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy;
   I will sing and make music to the LORD.
7 Hear my voice when I call, LORD;
be merciful to me and answer me.
8 My heart says of you, “Seek his face!”
   Your face, LORD, I will seek.
9 Do not hide your face from me,
   do not turn your servant away in anger;
   you have been my helper.
Do not reject me or forsake me,
   God my Savior.
10 Though my father and mother forsake me,
   the LORD will receive me.
11 Teach me your way, LORD;
   lead me in a straight path
   because of my oppressors
12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,
   for false witnesses rise up against me,
   spouting malicious accusations.
13 I remain confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the LORD
   in the land of the living.
14 Wait for the LORD;
   be strong and take heart
   and wait for the LORD.

So here are the five points, I finally have a list! Forget the rest of the world, God never lets you down, when you’re down and feel let down by the world and other people remember - He never lets us down, His promises are real and He’ll keep all of them.
  • Step One - Seek the Lord (verse 4,8)
  • Step Two - Sing to the Lord (the whole of Psalm 27 )
  • Step Three - Serve the Lord (verse 9 - no time to quit)
  • Step Four - See the Lord (verse 13 - believing is seeing)
  • Step Five - Stop for the Lord (verse 14 - wait...wait...wait...be patient)
That's it, beautiful and it would go so well in a deserted island, but as that is not possible today I will read the Psalm one more time.

Perspective

Perspective - the ability to see something - judge - a point of view - an artistic point of view...or the use of drugs to make things look good :0

oh brother if you see what I'm painting now, you will need to smoke some really good stuff to appreciate it....but I'm ok with that! Really I am!!

(Worst feeling is that I missed last nights class because of parents evening zzzz)

Poem for today

The Road Not Taken
by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I
I took the one less traveled by...

I don't know yet - Is mine a long narrow stretch with a rough bumpy surface, or is it a sheltered area of water near a shore in which a vessel may ride and take anchor?

It's a good poem -

Long Weekend

There's something extra special about long lazy weekends when you stay at home. The roads are quiet and there's a sense of peace in the air. I love it. I love the relaxed feeling even at home the meals are more simple. It's just a good feeling all round. I'm glad we didn't go anywhere and we are just chilling at home. I have my favorite three boys at home, bliss!

Alarm clock is off and we take naps after breakfast and after lunch, it's so quiet in my house, boys are busy with the things they love - playing with gadgets like ipods, ipads, all those iboy toys - and hubby is surfing the net reading his favorite sport, news and photography sites. He's got flu and naps with the laptop on his lap, TV remote close by....snoring....
I have also had my turn with the ipad, learning to instagram and colorsplash, lots of fun, but enough of that.

I took Thursday off to make it an extra long weekend and to spend some time with the boys, we managed to squeeze in some shopping and then met my favourite people for lunch and bowling and some laughs.

Wonderful, I wonder what the rest of the weekend has in store?

Sloppy but not cute

When we were kids my sister had a t-shirt that we bought in Durban. They used have these great shops that had loads and loads of pictures and sayings; you could pick your favorite and they would 'print' it on the t-shirt with your name on it. In those days having your name on your t-shirt was cool. We spent hours deciding on the t-shirt. I can't for the life of me remember what my one had but my sisters one said 'sloppy but cute' and had a picture of these dirty little piglets all muddy faces. It suited her, she was the one that was always messy, untidy side of the room, crazy school bag, always falling...well it just suited her. Sloppy but cute!

We all have moments of untidiness in our lives, house or work desk, but at some stage we need to clear the mess and put some order to the disorder.
I'm the unlucky one that works with some sloppy and definitely not cute people. Everyone has a desk, chair and bin, it's standard in the office we all get it. What I don't understand is why some people insist on leaving crap all over the floor! The bin is right there next to your desk. Put the crap in the bin.
And here's another bright idea don't put it near my desk. I hate that!

You can't always live with clutter and jumble and if you can't get to it today or this week then pack it in a nice neat pile in the corner somewhere. Clutter can be filled, I know it can. I have my own clutter corner in the office and at home in each room *embarrising* but it's sort of out of the way and out of sight and looks neat.

That's another thing that wombat does, what ever is unwanted finds it's way into my garage or my sapre room. Another sloppy but not cute person. What is it with people and their own crap, throw it out in the bin, get rid of it don't slowly push it to my garage or near my desk because one day, one day, I am going to loose it and it aint gonna be cute!

Please use the bin piglet you are SO not cute!!
